Dr. Taylor completed four years at the University of Pennsylvania in anatomic pathology and dermatopathology with a research and clinical focus on melanoma and pigmented lesions. She has published papers on diagnostic variability, immunohistochemical staining to aid in melanoma diagnosis, e-learning, integration of technology into practice, and clinical-pathologic correlation of disease.

Dr. Taylor has been mentored by leading experts in complex medical dermatology including, Dr. Jae Jung, MD, PhD, an expert in oncodermatology and medical dermatology in cancer patients from Norton Cancer Center and Dr. Misha Rosenbach, MD, an internationally recognized expert in autoimmune diseases. Dr. Rosenbach is director of the dermatology residency, complex medical dermatology fellowship and inpatient dermatology service at the renowned University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Rosenbach and Dr. Taylor co-edited the textbook, Inpatient Dermatology.

Dr. Taylor trained with Dr. Greenway, an international expert in anatomy and micrographic surgery. She also trained with plastic, oculoplastic and ENT surgeons in repair techniques including Dr. Pacella, a well-respected surgeon, who authored the textbook, Aesthetic Facial Reconstruction after Mohs Surgery. Most closures are completed in office by Dr. Taylor. When needed, we coordinate with outside specialists, such as plastic surgeons. We also have an outpatient operating room in our building for added convenience.

Cynthia Gerardi, MD is a board-certified dermatologist who treats patients of all ages with a specialty in cosmetic dermatology. Dr. Gerardi earned her degree in medicine from Cornell University School of Medicine. She did her internship at Northwestern University and her dermatology training at Mount Sinai School of Medicine. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and Assistant Clinical Professor at Mount Sinai Medical Center.
Dr. Gerardi believes strongly in working together with her patients to enhance skin health and beauty. She has over 30 years of experience in the treatment of aging and sun-damaged skin. She utilizes the latest skin rejuvenation techniques using Botox, Xeomin, Injectable Fillers, Chemical Peels, Microneedling, PRP, Kybella and lasers. She does skin checks using state of the art AI assisted technology and treats an array of dermatologic disorders. Dr. Gerardi is compassionate and committed to your health and well being.

Mohs Micrographic Surgery
Mohs Micrographic surgery is a technique developed by Dr. Frederic Mohs where the physician acts as both the surgeon and pathologist. Dr. Taylor's additional training in pathology makes her only one of a select few Mohs surgeons in the country certified and fellowship trained in both specialties. Dr. Taylor has trained with esteemed experts at some of the most respected institutions in the country.

What is Mohs?
Overall, Mohs offers several advantages over traditional excisional techniques, including higher cure rates, better preservation of healthy tissue, and improved cosmetic outcomes, making it the preferred option for many patients with skin cancer, especially those with tumours in cosmetically sensitive areas or with a high risk of recurrence.
Dr. Taylor completes most of her own closures but is always happy to coordinate with a plastic surgeon if desired or needed. Some complex cases will require interdisciplinary care and Dr. Taylor works with a wonderful team of experts. She is always willing to work with your own doctors as well.
Initial Removal:
The surgeon begins by numbing the area with a local anesthetic and then removes the visible portion of the tumor along with a thin layer of surrounding tissue (the clinical margin).
Tissue Mapping and Sectioning:
The excised tissue is then meticulously mapped and divided into sections, with each section labeled and correlated with the original position of the patient's body.
Tissue Processing and Examination:
The tissue sections are frozen and mounted onto slides. These slides are then stained and examined under a microscope by the Mohs surgeon. This step is crucial for identifying any remaining cancer cells.
Margin Assessment:
If cancer cells are found in the margins of any tissue section, the surgeon precisely identifies the location on the map and removes the tissue from the corresponding area. This process is repeated with the goal of sparing healthy tissue until the cancer is gone.
Wound Closure:
Once the cancer is completely removed, the wound is typically closed with sutures. Depending upon the size and location of the wound, the surgeon may employ various closure techniques to optimize healing and minimize scarring.

What is Concierge Medicine?
Concierge medicine is personalized and attentive care to a small census of patients. Dr. Taylor does not participate with insurance companies or Medicare as she would not be able to provide this focused level of care and service in a traditional medical model. Patients with private insurance are encouraged to submit to their insurance for possible out-of-network reimbursement but this is not guaranteed by Derm Health.
Dr. Taylor's practice is structured as a consultative model billed as fee for service. Dr. Taylor is happy to collaborate with her patient's existing doctors as needed. She also offers an exclusive membership option that includes most follow-up services. These memberships are very limited and by invitation only.
Regular skin checks by a highly trained dermatologist are crucial for early detection of skin cancers. A thorough examination, which involves disrobing to check the full body, including the scalp and feet, is necessary to identify emerging or early-stage skin cancers. All patients receive a consultation prior to surgery which can be done in person or virtually based on your preference. While many Mohs Surgeons perform 8-12 surgeries per day requiring double or triple bookings, we never schedule two surgeries at the same time and limit ourselves to only 1-4 surgeries per day.
